The joy of used ballet tights

Ballet tights' new life as veggie hammockBallet tights’ new life as veggie hammock

With two growing girls, I have bags full of holey and outgrown ballet tights. I use them a lot, but my new favorite use is in the garden. I had heard about saving space by growing squash vines up a trellis and making little hammocks for the squash … ballet tights are perfect for the hammocks. Trim one leg off the pair, trim off the toes and cut along the long side, so that you have a rectangular piece of nylon. Put your growing squash (we have acorn squash) in the center of the rectangle and tie the loose ends on your trellis. Cute little pampered veggies!

Now THAT is SMART. I have outgrown ballet tights still hanging on hangers in the laundry room. I have no reason to ignore them any longer.

seems such a shame to cut up tights..my aunty [steals] my Black opaque school tights and cuts them up into strips for her tomato plants cause they are thick nylon/spandex stretchy tights..90 denier…all my tights suffer the same fate.
